Common Contagious Illnesses

Children who appear ill before school should not be sent to school. Common sense tells us that children who are ill have trouble concentrating and need rest in order to get well. Additionally, children who come to school ill can infect other children.

Other times when your child should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 or more (before using fever reducing medication) in the previous 24 hours
  • Vomiting or persistent diarrhea during the night or in the morning
  • Diagnosis of a contagious illness such as strep throat, impetigo, chicken pox, etc.
Before returning to school, a student must be on antibiotics for a minimum of 24 hours if being treated for a bacterial infection. Parents are welcome to contact the Nurse at school to discuss questions regarding their child's health.
